Restoration Community Outreach, Inc. is a faith- based community development center that has served West Wilson and adjoining Tennessee counties since May of 1996, and is an approved United Way agency. Programs offered include tutoring of children and adults as well as preventive maintenance for teens. We are in the process of developing a one-year, live-in, Christian Discipleship/Rehabilitation program, called SKILL (Seeking Knowledge in Life’s Lessons) Program for men who have addictions to drugs, alcohol, gambling, or various other addictions.
A group of local citizens with compassion to do something about the communities’ outcry for help came together and formed the organization. Some of those needs were in the areas of:
- Education (lack of sufficient income to afford prices charged to take classes or get tutoring);
- High risk (idle time of children and youth was causing many to become “high risk”); and
- Recovery and loving support for direction in various areas of peoples’ lives.
Enrollment began immediately upon opening of the center and has continually increased. No one with needs that Restoration can meet has ever been turned away.
The programs currently offered are:
- Tutoring: We tutor children, youth and adults in Literacy, Math, English and Computer/Typing.
- Preventive Maintenance: This program is for youth ages 11–19. It is designed to help prevent youth from becoming involved in things that are detrimental to good character building and becoming quality adult citizens.
- SKILL: Offers short-term programs as well as the one-year Christ-centered recovery and rehabilitation program where men can get free from their addictions through the power of Christ.
- Other: We provide Counseling, Parenting and Spiritual Development Classes, Financial Guidance and mentoring for the youth as well as referrals to other agencies.
